Brute-force with mask attack makes the program fully customizable, if any part of the password is known. You can customize the password features as a mask to minimize the recovery time. Provided the password length is known, or some digits, special characters, capitals in the password are known, you may double the recovery speed or even triple or even several tens of times to increase the speed. For example, you remember the password is 6 characters in length, with the middle characters are "A&", the last is "9", then your password is "**A&*9". In this case, the program can just look for the first two characters and the fifth character, instead of the whole password without any clue, like the password length, the characters in the password.
