Some major components in Greyhound racing are:
1. Early Speed
Early Speed greyhounds are front-running sprinters and stayers and about 80% are winners.
By avoiding the jam that can occur on the first turn these Greyhounds are able to gain often many lengths into the first straight but sometimes fade in the home straight.
Early Speed is a major component of greyhound handicapping and G-rate Pro consideres this and many other factors when rating.
2. Mid Track is made up from the back straight to the home straight.
Mid track greyhounds allow Early Speed Greyhounds to lead and then accellerate from the backstraightl to the homestraight.
3. Late Speed is defined from the home straight to the Finish line.
Late speed greyhounds make their move coming into the home-straight and finish hard to the finish line especially on big tracks with long straight runs.
Not too many Greyhounds have the ability to make up the necessary ground to win a race after a poor getaway.
4. Class or Grade is another very important factor in greyhound rating.
Grade 1,2,4,S,ST,M,3/5,5P,5T,4/5 are some of the grades used in Australian Greyound racing.
If a Greyhound wins it is placed in the next higher grade and remain there until unplaced 3 times.
